Robot lawn mower ROI calculator (2026)
Estimate your true 5-year cost, payback period and net savings when replacing a gas push mower or weekly lawn service with a robot lawn mower. All defaults are calibrated against U.S. public data sources (EIA Short-Term Energy Outlook, EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies, BLS American Time Use Survey).
What this calculator does
It compares the 5-year total cost of ownership of a robot lawn mower against your current setup (gas push mower or lawn service) and returns: net 5-year savings, payback period in months, ROI percentage, hours of weekend time recovered, and CO₂ emissions avoided.
Inputs you control
Lawn size in square feet, current solution (gas push mower / lawn service / none), monthly lawn service cost, robot mower budget, hourly value of your weekend time, and optional overrides for local electricity ($/kWh) and gasoline ($/gal) prices.
How the model works
Robot 5-year cost = purchase + electricity + wear parts − resale (~18% MSRP). Gas mower 5-year cost = purchase + fuel + maintenance − resale. Lawn service 5-year cost = monthly fee × 60. Time savings are added at your hourly value to compute total value gained.
Public data sources
U.S. EIA STEO 2026 for residential electricity and gasoline prices. EPA factor of 8.89 kg CO₂ per gallon of gasoline burned. BLS American Time Use Survey 2024 for lawn-care time benchmarks. Manufacturer specifications for robot electricity consumption.
